Softneck Garlic Seed

Softnecks are the most commonly grown garlic.  They produce big bulbs with lots of cloves, and have long term storage.  Softneck garlics grow well in warmer Southern climates, may also grow well in  warmer Northern climates with an added layer of protection (mulch).  Garlic Gods grow 6 varieties of Softneck garlic.

Early Italian

Early Italian is a great braiding garlic since it will produce  small, medium, and large bulbs at harvest.  The largest bulbs will be produced from the large outer cloves.  An early season softneck that has smooth white paper over purple tinted cloves.  This is a great garlic to bake or roast.  Adapts well to summer heat, and is known for long storage when properly cured.

  • Sweet and Mild flavor

  • Stores 9-12 months

Susanville

One of the most popular softneck garlics.  Susanville has white skin with some occasional pink.  Mild but a true garlic flavor that is great for roasting.  Excellent early season garlic that harvests in late spring to early summer.  This is an early maturing garlic and can be enjoyed while most other garlics are still in the ground.  Grows large bulbs.  Large outer cloves can produce bulbs up to 3.5 inches in diameter.

Early Italian Purple

Vigorous and widely adaptable.  Early Italian Purple is one of the easiest garlics to grow.  The bulb grows large with white outer skin and purple stripes.  Very tolerant of heat, yet also grows well in Northern states with mulch.  One of our best producers, with lots of large bulbs.  Beautiful garlic that looks great displayed as a braid.

Rossa Di Sulmona

Rossa Di Sulmona is a favorite among gourmet Italian chefs, and is often considered the missing ingredient in authentic Italian dishes.  The garlic cloves are a beautiful burgandy held within thin white outer papers.  When a recipe calls for 1 clove, then 1 clove will be enough with this variety.  A true garlic lover's garlic.  One of the only softneck garlics to produce a scape.  Many garlic braids made with Rossa Di Sulmona in Italy will have 52 bulbs, one for every week of the year, as a testament of its long shelf life.

Hardneck Garlic Seed

Hardneck garlics have complex flavors with large uniform cloves and easy sking removal.  They are generally grown in colder Northern climates with cool springs.  Hardnecks are distinguished by the "stiff" neck, or flower stalk, that grows from the center of the stalk.  The center stalk, known as a scape is often removed approximately 3-4 weeks prior to harvest, this allows more energy to be directed towards the bulb rather than producing a flower.  Garlic scapes can be used as a mild, less pungent garlic and are great for making pesto, grilling, steaming, sauteing, and using in soups, salads, and eggs.  Garlic Gods grow 6 varieties of hardneck garlics, however we are building seed stock on 2 varieties, which will only be sold as culinary garlic for 2020.

Chesnok Red

Chesnok Red is a big, beautiful garlic that is great roasted and one of the best baking garlics available!!  It holds its shape and flavor well when cooked.  A full flavored hardneck.  The plants have vigorous leaves and produce large bulbs, many times 4 bulbs will weigh 1 full pound.  Hardnecks grow well in cold climates and are not recommended in warm Southern states.
