Certified garlic seed information:
Garlic Gods grows in the Idaho Allium Quarantine, a state-mandated protection zone covering 21 counties in Idaho and Malheur County in Oregon. It restricts the planting of garlic and onions unless the planting stock is grown, inspected, and certified within the quarantine area itself.
Why the Quarantine Exists & creates certified seed garlic
Southern Idaho is one of the leading onion-producing regions in the United States. White rot poses a serious threat to this industry, as it can persist in the soil for decades and devastate entire crops. The quarantine is a proactive measure to ensure long-term crop viability and economic stability for the region’s farmers.
What the Quarantine Requires

For Growers Inside the Zone:
Only garlic seed stock grown within the quarantine area may be planted.
All planting material must be annually inspected and certified by the Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) to ensure it's free of white rot.
For Garlic Brought Into the Zone:
Any garlic seed entering the zone from outside must undergo rigorous testing and certification to confirm it is completely free of the white rot pathogen.
What This Means for Growers
While the quarantine is critical for crop protection, it can limit:
The varieties of garlic available to growers within the zone
The ability to import new or heirloom seed garlic from other regions
At Garlic Gods, we fully support these efforts to maintain healthy soils and crops. That’s why all of our seed garlic grown in Idaho is inspected and certified white rot–free, making it a safe and reliable choice for growers across the United States.
